In A Year

I scribed a goal and a promise
on the original layer
of this wood plaque.
And then I painted over it
three times. The truth of
it lies beneath. I
emblazoned it with “RESET,”
to impel me to
remember, though I can’t
see the underlayer.
A year will pass swiftly,
as it does.
I will remain,
hopefully changed
again…
